Doug Singer is a partner in the law firm of Falcon Rappaport & Berkman LLP.
https://frblaw.com/ His areas of practice are corporate and social enterprise law and estate
planning.
Doug has been involved in the social enterprise space since 2012, counseling purpose
driven companies. His work has included assisting companies to become benefit
corporations or benefit limited liability companies, to define their social impacts, to draft
contract provisions and policies reflecting those social impacts, and to address the legal
and governance requirements included in the B Corporation certification assessment.
At the end of 2024, Doug launched and is the practice group leader of the Impact
Investing and Social Enterprise practice group at Falcon Rappaport. (Impact investing
involves investing for measurable social return as well as financial return.)
On the corporate side, Doug works with privately held businesses and their owners on
matters ranging from setting up entities to negotiating and drafting contracts to the
purchase and sale of companies. In estate planning, the hallmark of Doug’s approach is
effective communication – active and careful listening, and explaining complex concepts
in plain English, not legalese.
Doug has been practicing law for more than 40 years. Prior to joining Falcon Rappaport,
Doug worked with two large law firms in New York City and then co-founded and was a
principal of Falcon & Singer P.C., which was the first law firm in New Jersey and the
second in New York to be a certified B Corporation. Thereafter, he founded and was the
Managing Member of Singer Law PLLC and then a partner with Hollis Laidlaw &
Simon.
He has an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell (its highest rating for substantive ability
and ethics). He is a graduate of Hamilton College, Columbia Law School and the
Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses entrepreneurship program. Doug’s office is in
Mt. Kisco, New York.
