About the Panelists
Andy Levine
As General Counsel, Executive Vice President, and Corporate Secretary for SL Green, Andrew S. Levine is the company’s Chief Legal Officer. He has served in that position since joining the company in 2000.
SL Green Realty Corp., an S&P 500 company and New York City’s largest office landlord, is a fully integrated real estate investment trust, or REIT, that is focused primarily on acquiring, managing, and maximizing value of Manhattan commercial properties.
Before joining SL Green, Mr. Levine was a partner at the law firm of Pryor, Cashman, Sherman & Flynn, LLP. As a member of the REIT and Real Estate Transactions and Business groups at that firm, Mr. Levine served as counsel for a diverse client base of public and private real estate companies, national retailers, REITs, private developers, investment advisers, and lenders. Previously, he was a partner at the firm of Dreyer & Traub. Mr. Levine received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont in 1980 and a Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers School of Law in 1984.
Mr. Levine was also an Editor of the Rutgers Law Review. He currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Rutgers Center for Corporate Law and Governance.
Brian Steinwurtzel
Along with his cousin Eric Gural, Brian R. Steinwurtzel is co-head and principal of Newmark Holdings, which owns and manages a portfolio of approximately 50 properties comprising over 10 million square feet primarily in the New York City metro area.
The portfolio’s ownership includes such properties as the Flatiron Building, The Film Center and the Actors’ Equity Building.
Mr. Steinwurtzel oversees all aspects of the company’s operations with a focus on new investments, financing, project management and leasing activity.
His team has averaged more than 1.0 million square feet of leasing per year, including Manhattan’s largest lease in 2009, which relocated The Gap to approximately 265,000 square feet at 40 Worth Street in Tribeca.
An active member of the community, Mr. Steinwurtzel serves on the boards of Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts, the Center for Family Representation, & Columbia Business School’s Real Estate Advisory Board.
Mr. Steinwurtzel received his Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia Business School and his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Washington University.
Jason Barnett
Jason Barnett is one of the founding managing partners of RXR Realty LLC (“RXR” or the “Company”) where he serves as Vice Chairman, General Counsel, and Secretary of the Company. RXR is a fully integrated, multi-billion dollar private real estate company which was formed subsequent to the merger of Reckson Associates Realty Corp (“Reckson”) with SL Green, one of the largest public Real Estate management buyouts in REIT history. In this capacity, Mr. Barnett is involved in many aspects of the Company’s business. In addition to being responsible for all legal matters for the Company, Mr. Barnett is also responsible for overseeing the Company’s transactional activities as well as the Company’s corporate initiatives. Mr. Barnett is also a member of the Investment Committee of RXR.
Since forming RXR in 2007, Mr. Barnett has been involved in $14.7 billion of transactions, building RXR into one of the New York Tri-State area’s leading real estate companies comprised of 90 properties and 25.1 million square feet and one of the largest office landlords in Manhattan.
Mr. Barnett is an active participant in his community and serves as a Director, Trustee or Advisor for a number of community based organizations. Mr. Barnett earned a Bachelor’s of Arts from Clark University, attended the London School of Economics and earned his Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law.
